What is sensitive skin? |
| A: |
Sensitive
skin: It can be found in all types of skins. The skin
which is sensitive is relatively thinner than the others
and is easily stimulated by external factors. Upon exposure
to stimulants, the skin will have redness, and even mild
swelling, on the affected area. In some cases, there is
pox, lumps, punctures and symptom of itchy, etc. The sensitive
skin can be divided into the following types:
1. Not really belong to the “inherent” sensitive skin.
The skin becomes sensitive simply because of being exposed
to excessive irritant substances, or the skin is sensitive
to only specific fragrant or antiseptic in the cosmetics.
2. Dry skin without adequate moisture, in which sensitivity
can occur. We often called it “dry and sensitive” skin.
3. Skin with seborrheic dermatitis. The skin is oily in
nature, and the affected site is commonly seen in the
area between the eyebrows, the wings of the nose, or on
the cheeks when the dermatitis is more serious. This type
of skin is often called "dry and oily" skin
or that with "imbalance of moisture and oil”.
4. Skin with distiller's grains. It is characterized by
redness on two sides of the nose or on the cheeks, usually
with visible capillaries on the skin surface.

| Q: |
Does menstrual cycle
have any relation to the sensitivity state of a woman? |
| A: |
The sex
hormones that would affect women’s skin condition at menstrual
cycle are estrogen and progesterone. The estrogen is associated
with the process with ovulation and, in this period, women
become more beautiful and the skin is at the best condition.
During the two weeks following to ovulation, however,
the secretions of progesterone and androgen increase,
leading to a vigorous sebum secretion of skin and simultaneously
roughness of outer skin layer. The skin becomes sensitive
at this period and it is known as a feature of pre-menstrual
syndrome.
Approximate one week before the menstruation, therefore,
it is better off to avoid using heavy or fragrant-rich
skincare products. |
